Franco-Ontarian Day at SMT

Event Date: Sep 23, 2022

Franco-Ontarian Day, officially declared in 2010 by the Province, recognizes the contribution of Ontario's Francophone community to the cultural, historical, social, economic and political life of the province. The green and white of the flag of the Ontario French-speaking community represent the diversity of Ontario's climate (green for summer and white for winter). The fleur-de-lis evokes the French-speaking community worldwide, whereas the trillium is the official floral emblem of Ontario. Francophone culture thrives in Ontario and is supported through many festivals and in a lively arts presence. Some of the largest events which showcase Franco-Ontarian culture include the Franco-Ontarian Festival in Ottawa, Franco-Fête in Toronto, and La Nuit sur l'Étang (in French) in Sudbury. This year the official day is Sunday, September 25th.

SMT will be celebrating Franco-Ontarian Day on Friday, September 23rd. All students and staff are encouraged to wear a green/white shirt with uniform bottoms.
